I used to open my laptop before I opened my eyes, basically. Somewhere in the last year I started leaving my phone in another room and just... sitting. Coffee, plants, whatever's growing or dying that week.
It didn't fix anything dramatic. I'm not more productive. If anything I get to my desk later. But the first hour of the day stopped feeling like triage, and that's been worth more than the productivity ever was.
What actually happens in that hour
- Water whatever needs it
- Notice what changed overnight (a lot changes overnight, it turns out)
- Coffee, made slowly, on purpose
- No phone, no laptop, no exceptions
Small thing. Recommend it anyway.
